"AAA Week!"
I remember last year's AAA week. Do you remember?
Do you remember the badges they gave out for silence?
Do you remember people having a good laugh, and not actually taking the time to think about their actions?
Do you remember people thinking it was all fun and games, not that there were any implications?
Education. Anti-X.
None of it made a difference. People don't care, even to this day.
Why didn't they have Ageism? Why? It applies far more to this school than anti-homophobia ever will. Or even Sexism.
The -isms of this world are razors. All they need is for someone to wield them, to destroy.
As it is, people don't care. If you don't have people who care, then all the good intentions will just go away.
(I never though I would be writing a post like this, considering how content I am/have been. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm really unhappy.
Or maybe, the changes really are too drastic. Or maybe I'm just feeling a little lonely. Maybe it's this song. It's absolutely beautiful. Love the vocals..)
AAA? Sunny, with small clouds, and a forecast for failure.
(Maybe it's because of Nip/Tuck. Maybe, it's because, I'm thinking a lot, when I should be doing bio, and chem. But I don't care. They can be done at any time. My ruminations, moods and thoughts are far more important and variable.)
Last year there was a harmony day. This year there is a "mini-harmony day". What a joke.
They don't even have orange. They expect people to come in culturally accurate costumes. No-one will comply. No-one CARES.
Some might come in it for the fun of it. Others in uniform. Others still, in any random mufti. Others still will be incredibly embarrassed, but flushed with excitement in their "costumes".
It sounds fun, for sure, but no-one cares about the overall message. (If I had a conic straw hat, I could bring in a bamboo pole, and I'd be your traditional Viet farmer.)
Last week I mentioned to Candid Friend about where all the nice people in society come from. And I thought it wasn't from other schools. Turns out I'm wrong. Turns out, it's not from *our* school.
Call it conceitedness. Call it arrogance. I don't care. People here don't care about others.
It's saddening.
"No man is an island". Bull. Look around. Open your eyes. Donne, see for yourself what the future is like. See what people have become.
Everything has changed, hasn't it?
(Ok, it's probably the song. But I LOVE IT.)
See for yourself, that people don't care, a world where racism, and discrimination is just lurking below the surface, unconscious, and strikes out when you're not paying attention.
Am I angry? Most certainly.
Will I do anything drastic? Most certainly not.
But, for the people promoting this day, don't do a half assed job of it. Calling things "mini-X-day" doesn't cut it. Nor does having people dress up in "traditional clothing".
Main point of ICT presentation: "It is the similarities between cultures that sparks racism. Much like how one is repulsed by one's own distorted recording, people are repulsed by similarities, but differences in cultures. (Kram, thank you for that last line, or part thereof.)"
"It was an important conversation" - Kimihiro Watanuki, xxxHolic
Perhaps, people will tell me "No Neku! You're wrong! Resist those emo urges!"
And I'll just sit here.
And watch.
And sigh.
What have we done?
Hoping AAA week won't be a dud. (What a false hope that shall turn out to be.)
PS. I have a poem to write. I think I found my inspiration. Thank you, all of you.
PPS. I love writing posts like this. It's so much fun. Really.

If I bring a straw hat and bamboo poles will you be a vietnamese farmer? Or will you say that it's not going to help any cause and not bother? You'd make a pretty good vietnamese farmer you know
Yes, that'd be awesome.
But I'll be wearing jeans, maybe a white shirt.
So like, it'll be weird. =S
Who cares, yea? Yes. I'm not taking it serious either.
